Plenty of people have items in their closets that they're never going to wear anymore for a myriad of reasons. Some ladies, don't wear the same dress twice for fear of being photographed in it twice; others have lost or gained weight and cannot fit items; others just fall out of love with some hand bags and leave them sitting on the shelves like old dolls.
Fashion Swap Parties are the newest phenomenon in eco-friendly fashion, where people raid their closets for threads they no longer want and bring them to the nearest clothing-swap party (instead of the local consignment store). There, fashionistas gather to garner once-loved pieces from both friends and complete strangers. Attendees can swap clothes, accessories, cosmetics, perfume, shoes and lots more. With the economy the way it is, Fashion Swap parties are a great way to refresh your wardrobe and a great way to recycle things you don’t want anymore and have a lot of fun doing it.
How does a Fashion Swap Party work?
- Gather all of your high end clothes, shoes, jewelry accessories, perfume and UNUSED makeup and cosmetics that you no longer desire. All items must be clean and in excellent condition. NOTE: It is not required to bring a high-end item. (See # 4 below).
- Each attendee is assigned a number. Numbers are assigned in the order of arrival. The first person to arrive is number 1 and so on.
- As your number is called, you get to choose from the items. You are assigned as many numbers as the amount of items that you brought. I.e., If you brought 3 items, you will receive 3 numbers and will be able to choose 3 items.
- Each attendee is also assigned a category depending on the value of the item he/she brings. For instance, attendees who bring in a high-end (Chanel, Gucci, etc.) item will be able to select from the high-end items. Attendees who bring in lower-end items will select from the lower-end items.
- If someone else chooses the item that you want, don't fret...make a deal with them. Or at least try to!
- Any unaccepted items can be left to be donated to charity or you may take them back with you. We have chosen Dress for Success as our benefactor. The mission of Dress for Success is to promote the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing professional attire, a network of support and the career development tools to help women thrive in work and in life. - There is a $25 entrance fee for each of our fashion swaps. $25 for a fairly new pair of Jimmy Choos...You do the math!
- You'll check-in where your items are screened and counted. For each garment, you will receive a ticket which you'll use later to swap a 'new' garment.
- While the other attendees check in, relax with your friends and enjoy the crowd with a nice cocktail!
- After check-in has concluded, we will officially open swap!
